SFTT’s campaigns provide our brave defenders and those who care deeply about them with a national platform that spotlights critical issues directly affecting their chances of both winning battles and surviving combat. Our goal and that of the SFTT website is to Inform, Educate and Follow-up on critical issues to insure that our frontline troops have the best available leadership, equipment and training. As a non-partisan and apolitical foundation, SFTT raises public awareness and pushed for appropriate action in an engaging and professional manner. To help us in this effort:

  • Contact locally elected officials: The heavy reliance on our National Guard and Reserve components places increased responsibility on locally elected officials to react to critical issues affecting their constituents;
  • Contact the local media: Share your story and other information from SFTT with the local media;
    Keep the SFTT Flame of Truth shining brightly by sharing your message on social media networks;
  • Write, call or email your State Senators and Congressperson to share information and your concerns to help protect our brave men and women serving in harm’s way.

Set up a Personal Meeting

There are many ways to support the SFTT mission. As a non-partisan and apolitical educational foundation, the goal of our members and volunteers is to inform, educate and follow-up. One should politely and responsibly let our elected leaders and others know that we care deeply about the men and women who serve in harm’s way. Setting up a personal meeting is the best way build an ongoing relationship.

Face-to-face contact remains the most effective way to get your message across. Where possible, setup a personal meeting. While you may not be able to meet with a Senator, Representative, Governor, News Director or a Managing Editor, you should be able to meet with one of their subordinates. Let them have an opportunity to begin to know you as an earnest and concerned citizen, with a deadly serious message.

Go to your meeting prepared with relevant information that you can leave behind. Always volunteer to send additional information to keep your contacts up-to-date on the latest developments. Overtime you will begin to build credibility and become their useful asset by providing un-filtered reports from America’s grunts, direct from the battlefield!

Phone Calls

As a non-partisan and apolitical educational foundation, the goal of SFTT members and volunteers is to inform, educate and follow-up. One should politely and responsibly let our elected leaders and others know that we care deeply about the men and women who serve in harm’s way. While a personal meeting is the most effective way to get your message across, a timely telephone call is often more feasible.

While the objective of the initial phone call is to establish a meeting, regular phone conversations can earn your information a high degree of receptivity on the part of your “phone buddy.” Holding regular meetings and phone conversations takes time and effort on your part, but is certainly worth the effort.
If you want to be effective as a facilitator in getting the battlefield truth to your targeted audience, you must stand out from the crowd, and the best way to do this is to build a reputation for being a credible source with solid information.

Send a Letter, Fax or Email

As a non-partisan and apolitical educational foundation, the goal of SFTT members and volunteers is to inform, educate and follow-up. One should politely and responsibly let our elected leaders and others know that we care deeply about the men and women who serve in harm’s way. While personal contact is the most effective way to get your message across, a well-written and personal letter can be quite persuasive. Faxes and emails are generally treated as “junk-mail” or “spam” and, as such, we do not believe that it is an effective form of communication.

When writing an elected official, your letter should attempt to connect on a personal level. It is all well and good to be concerned about the effectiveness of combat gear, but your elected official wants to know why you are concerned. If you have a son or daughter or loved one serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, consider using their story to make your letter more impactful and relevant.

Please refer to sample letters and fact sheets to help craft your correspondence. Found below are links to help you find the address and phone number of your State Senators and Congressional Representatives:

Our Campaigns

  • December 23, 2009: The law firm of Kirkland & Ellis LLP filed the final motion with the Federal Court in Washington, DC in the Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) on behalf of the SFTT’s editor for forensic records held by the Department of Defense (“DOD”).
  • October 16, 2009: The Government Accountability Office (“GAO”) issues report to Congress calling for “independent expert assessment of Army body armor test results.” This damning report of US Army body armor test procedures is the outgrowth of a two-year investigative and educational campaign by SFTT to seek fair and impartial test procedures.
