Community Resource Centers

Local organizations have sprung up all across the United States to support Veterans in their communities. Under the Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program (“SSVF”) program, the VA awards grants to private non-profit organizations and consumer cooperatives who can provide supportive services to very low-income Veteran families living in or transitioning to permanent housing. Some of these programs provide: financial planning and legal services, transportation and childcare services and housing counseling. Visit the Supportive Services for Veteran Families web page to learn more, and also to view a list of SSVF providers organized by state.

PLEASE NOTE: Avoid paying any fees for “professional services” to help place you in a job. There are many organizations that will help you prepare a resume for FREE, so don’t be seduced by scam artists.

One-on-One Volunteer Counselors

A growing number of private physicians, psychiatrists and therapists are voluntarily devoting their time for confidential one-on-one counseling for men and women who have served in harm’s way. If you would like to schedule a time to chat with one of these volunteers for FREE and confidential one-one-counseling, please email [email protected] for more information. While every effort will be made to identify a counselor near you, many appointments will necessarily need to take place by telephone.
